BE PREPARED! Severe Weather & Hurricane Preparedness
Welcome to peak hurricane season! Historically, September is a highly active month for storms. While we always hope to avoid a direct hit, here are some things you can do before, during, and after any severe weather event to protect your ac system.
Not Sure How to Prepare Your Units?
Before The Storm:
Trim back overgrown bushes or trees surrounding your condenser unit. Install a surge protector. This will help mitigate power fluctuations and help prolong the life expectancy of your equipment components.
During The Storm:
Turn your system off. When you see a thunderstorm cell coming, proactively turn your ac system off at the thermostat or breaker. This will help protect the system from power surges.
After The Storm:
Before turning on your system, inspect the condenser unit for any damage or debris. Pay particular attention to ensure that the condenser fan blades are not restricted. Listen for any weird noises. Wash down the condenser coil with your garden hose. Removing any debris stuck on the unit will help ensure the system will not freeze up in the future.
